Here’s how you can get involved with South West Devon Constituency Labour Party (CLP)

Meetings

We hold regular meetings on the second Thursday of each month. These usually include a talk/presentation on a particular topic before the “business” section of the meeting. Previous topics have included Animal Welfare (League Against Cruel Sports) and Autism Awareness (Rob de Jong & Janet Wise – both members – of Plymouth Autism Hub).

Typically our meetings are held at Harewood House, Plympton, PL7 2AS and start at 19:30.

Canvassing

Our members take part in frequent canvassing sessions across the Constituency area. This involves knocking on people’s doors and speaking with them to try and identify which political party they tend to support, and/or identify any issues that they would like to raise either locally or nationally.

There is free training available for this and you can also help by “running the board” if you aren’t comfortable speaking to people on the doorstep.

Street Stalls & Other Events

From time to time, the CLP will organise street stalls or other events – either to talk to voters about Labour party policies or just to get people engaged with the Labour Party generally.

This sort of thing tends to happen more during election periods but can be at any time – particularly if there is a pressing local issue ongoing, such as strike action, major road/development works or similar.

Leafleting

Probably one of the easiest ways of getting involved – as it can be done whenever suits you. Typically this type of activity will only be required during a local or general election period, although it can be used to highlight work that has been done by a local Labour council at any time.
